I’m watching The Hour. Some thoughts:

  1. Bel is everything I want to be. Without the affairs with married men though.
  2. and Andrew Scott sure does like to play gay characters. And he should, he’s good at it.
  3.  Damn, I liked this guy. It’s like losing Owen Harper all over again.
  4. Is BBC hiring?

The differences between fandoms:

Harry Potter: Cross over ALL the fandoms!

Merlin: Gay. Gay. Gaygaygay.

Doctor Who: If you don't ship Rose/Doctor, you will not fare well here.

Supernatural: Welcome to the fandom, we're glad to meet you - WAIT IT'S FRIDAY CLEARLY YOU AND ALL YOUR OPINIONS SUCK.

Sherlock: Oh hey, thanks for following! Of course I'll follow back, and here, have a muffin embossed with Benedict's face.

Glee: Declare your Kurt ship and STAY ON YOUR OWN SIDE OF THE FANDOM.

Torchwood: If you are homophobic, you will die.

We kissed, we held each other, we lay on top of each other in bed… and there were lots of complaints about that. Nobody complained that I was shot in the head four times, there were burning people in ovens, that I was stabbed by a mob of 50 people hundreds of times and I was hanging dripping my blood in a pit. So that’s what confuses me, because you’re not complaining about gay sex, you’re complaining about two men kissing. And it’s 2011. And people say, ‘Well why should we have that on television?’ Because the BBC have to represent the greater public - and there are gay people out there who pay their television license. For people to complain, that’s your prerogative - but you know what, none of them turned it off! They were just embarrassed because it put them in a position where they had to explain things to their kids or their family which probably should have been explained a long time ago.

Torchwood Finale - Thoughts

I know the general consensus is that the new Torchwood sucks, and while I’ll admit that I terribly missed Cardiff and the hub and Ianto, I quite liked it. It was different, yes, but not bad. I thought 10 episodes was dragging it out but I can’t say I was disappointed. The whole season was brilliant really. I mean, how can you say that wasn’t realistic? Just like in Children of the Earth the writers nailed exactly what society’s reaction would be given that situation. To the people here saying that in reality we wouldn’t burn non-dead people need to pick a history book. This whole season was amazing, it gave me chills and made me weep a couple times. Just a couple.

- spoilers ahead -

I just saw the last episode - so the shock is still fresh - and basically:

  • I love shows that aren’t afraid to kill characters, no matter how great and interesting they are. So, RIP Esther, but it was necessary.
  • I knew that Jack would survive (given that Torchwood is inside the DW canon universe) but there were some tense seconds when I was gripping my pillow in fear.
  • I also loved the various sub plots - from Gwen’s family life to the CIA cooperation. I was so happy we got more Rhys this season.
  • The only thing I wasn’t happy with was Rex’s new found immortality at the very end. It kinda cheapened out Jack’s own immortality, if that makes sense…

Lastly, favorite scene in the whole season:

The further I got into those dialogues, the harder I laughed. “Gay married to a gay architect” is my favourite.
